Who is D Foster from After Tupac and D Foster and what is their importance?

D Doster is an eleven-year-old girls who befriends Neeka and the narrator at the start of the novel. Her mother is an alcoholic, she doesn't know her father, and she has spent time living in group home because of her mother's alcoholism.

Like Neeka and the narrator, D is infatuated with Tupac. She largely connects with his songs dealing with mother/ daughter relationships.
