Curzon is Isabel's very best friend in America. Though both characters are slaves, Curzon's experience is far different than Isabel's. He has freedom of movement; he wears nice clothing; and he is allowed the freedom of the city. When Curzon agrees to emlist in the war as his master's substitute, he is promised freedom if he survives.
