Confucius was a Chinese intellectual and philosopher whose ideas had a dramatic influence on Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese thought. Pound refers to Confucius as "Kung" and expresses an important fascination with him. The book begins with periodic discussions of passages and dialogues from Confucius's Analects, which Pound ranks among the most important writings in human history, even greater than the Greek philosophers.
