Who is Cinna the poet from Julius Caesar and what is their importance?

Cinna the poet is killed while attending Caesar's funeral. He is mistaken for the conspirator (with the same name) after someone asks who he is. The mob refuses to listen when he tries to explain, and he is ultimately beaten to death.
