Cindy is a southern daughter of a farmer and his wife. When she was a little girl, her sister was killed in a farming accident, and Cindy has lived her entire life with the guilt that it should have been her. Cindy's parents seem to mirror this feeling because they treat their daughter with cruel indifference and frequent criticism. Cindy and Beth become friends after metting at their children's school.
