Sexton's Cinderella is portrayed as a virtuous, beautiful, and hard working, young woman. The reader sympathizes with her character, as she struggles to find happiness in the form of a princely husband. The poet suggests, however, that even though Cinderella's wish was granted..... the marriage and the prince fail to make her happy. The character of Cinderella becomes a metaphor for the society in which women believe that satisfaction can only be found in traditional female roles.
