The commander of the guerrilla fighters, Rajah terrorizes the villagers where Bram and Sian live. Rajah has no understanding of elephants and uses Bram in order to control them as they make their escape. Mohinder wants Sian for himself and has her brought to him on the trail. When planes fly overhead, shots are fired, and though Mohinder is killed in the attack, Sian is as well, since she had not been allowed to stay in the village.
