Caballo Blanco, also known as Michael Randall Hickman, was born the son of a Marine Corps gunnery sergeant in California. His family, like most miltary families, moved around a lot. As an adult, Caballo became a professional boxer. While taking a break from boxing, he ended up in Hawaii where he befriended a hermit who taught him to love running.
Michael, know to the Tarahumara runners as Shaggy, set up the race knowing it that it would draw some of the best runners in the world to compete.
