Bror Blixen was the only man Dinesen ever married. He is described as a crude man, who often visited prostitutes and over time contracted syphilis. Unfortunately, he passed the disease on to his wife.

After their divorce, Blixen found life unsatisfying. He worked with safaris, traveled, and invested in a few business ventures that never panned out. Near the end of his life, he moved to a small family farm, an environment he'd always disliked and died there.
