Who is Brewster from Montana Sky and what is their importance?

Jim Brewster is Jack Mercy's illegitimate son. He works on Mercy Ranch, hoping for the acceptance of his father, but is never recognized as the only son that Jack Mercy has seemed to long for all of his life. Brewster begins causing problems on Mercy Ranch and is responsible for the killings that take place there. He is the novel's antagonist.
