Bernard Squires is the rival buyer for Simmons Wood. Squires is the investment manager for the Central Midwest Brotherhood of Grouters, Spacklers and Drywallers International. Squires uses this fund to allow a mobster to skim money. Squires plans on buying the Simmons Wood property and then halting the construction. This will appear as a loss on the books that will be double the real loss in order to provide funds to the mobster. The mobster places Squires under a great deal of pressure to speed up this deal. However, Squires is forced to pull out when Moffitt threatens to leak information about the mobster to the local press, placing his life in grave danger.
