Babe was Anna's aunt, but was so much younger than the rest of her aunts that she was effectively a cousin to Anna. Babe died in young adulthood after jumping into a lake to swim. Babe was a self-possessed, confident, and brazenly beautiful woman who never fit into the family mold that she was expected to fit into. At the age of 19, Babe became pregnant and was taken to Europe by her sisters and mother, where she gave birth to the baby that was then taken away from her.
