Ingeborg's sister, Aunt Bess, was a stabilizing influence on Dinesen. Dinesen, however, was a bit too smart to be manipulated by her aunt, even if she was fond of her. As a result, the two exchanged letters that were actually debates. Dinesen defended her position, arguing for the full rights of women in a man's world. Her aunt argued for traditional women's. Dinesen and her aunt did agree that it was a man's world...... but they supported opposite approaches to the situation.
