Atiwaneto was an Abenaki Indian. He gave a harsh talk to Massachusetts' emissary, Phineas Stevens, in 1752. Atiwaneto berated Stevens for Massachusetts' characterization of his tribe as a bad people. He then forbid any colonists from encroaching further on Abenaki land.
