Anna Ramsay is a school teacher at the valley's second school. She and Angus are immediately drawn to each other, and Angus pleads with her to marry him. Anna, however, wants to travel with her family and promises to give Angus an answer in the fall. The couple corresponds by letter over the summer, but when Anna finally returns, she tells Angus that she has agreed to marry Isaac. Anna's family chose Angus as her husband because they knew he could provide her with financial security.
