Anna was Sidney's mother. She was married to Victor before Sidney's birth, but when her stepfather killed her husband, Anna was forced to journey to town to testify at the hearing. She is gone for a year. After the trial, Anna insisted on walking the more than 400 miles back to be with her children. When Sidney was five, his mother died from eating bad fish. Sidney was left alone to care for his two younger siblings.
