Alonso, King of Naples, conspired against Prospero with Antonio, causing Prospero's exile to the Island. When Prospero calls in the "tempest", Alonso is shipwrecked and stranded on the Island, where Prospero torments him before offering forgiveness if Alonso repents of his crimes against Prospero. Alonso not only repents, he also consents to his son's betrothal to Prospero's daughter, Miranda.
