Andrew Soaring is a freshman in high school when the novel begins. Andrew has a brother who died in the war and now he wants to be a star basketball player to honor his brother's memory. However, after one amazing game, Andrew breaks his arm and finds himself replaced as the star player by the child of a carnival owner.
