Aleksandr Baraov was an Irkutsk businessman. Once the owner of a glass factory, he later became the representative of Marina Zhdanko's fur trading company in the Aleutian Islands. Baraov also established Russian colonies on Sitka Island. He and his common law wife, Anna, had two children. While in his seventies, Baraov was accused of mishandling funds. He died on April 16, 1819, on his way to St. Petersburg.
