Abu 'Inan was the son of Abu l'Hasan. He successfully challenged his father for the seat of power in Morocco shortly after Ibn Battuta returned from his travels. Abu 'Inan went onto construct a fortified city next to the old city of Fez, where he encouraged the propagation of Islamic scholarship. He later commissioned Ibn Juzayy to write down the recollections of Ibn Battuta's journeys.
