Biscop lived between the years 628 and 690. He was the Founder of the twin monasteries at Monkwearmouth and Jarrow. Biscop was from Northumbria and served as mentor to Ceolfrith. During his pilgrimages to Rome, Biscop attained a number of relics and books that he brought back with him. Bede credits Biscop with introducing glass-working to the English.
