Abba the shoemaker is a character in The Little Shoemakers. He has a shop in the village of Frampol. He and his wife, Pescha, have seven sons, all of whom are shoemakers like their father. After all of his children emigrate to America, Abba becomes lonely and sickly, and his wife dies of cholera. He soon loses all interest in his business and stops working altogether..... until one day he receives a letter containing a steamship ticket to America. arrives in the mail for him. Once in America, Abba settles in a town in New Jersey, where he is surrounded by his loving family. His sons build him a workshop, and Abba comes back to life..... resuming his old work habits. Abba's new life is one of pure contentment.
