What was the effect of Mama king's escape from Frangipani House on Matron?

Matron is determined to locate Mama King becuase her disappearance might harm her reputation. After Mama King is hospitalized after being attacked and robbed, Matron does some soul searching by looking back on her youth and immersing herself in memories (not very good memories) of her own mother.
