difference in opinion of beryl and marietta

I'm assuming you are referring to a difference of opinion regarding their parents and childhood? If so, Beryl doesn't resent her parents and has no lingering anger toward them. She even finds humor in remembering the past. Marietta, however, was traumatized by her mother's threat of suicide (brought on by her father's abuse), and she grew to hate her father.
