Edward X. Delaney: devoted husband, outstanding former detective and obsessive sandwich-eater, whose career arc from Manhattan precinct captain to unpaid private sleuth is described over the course of the entire series is featured, again, in The Second Deadly Sin. The Second Deadly Sin is gluttony and Sanders works in this 'sin' into a brutal murder in New York's criminal art world. Victor Maitland, a well known artist, and a deplorable human being (albeit a very talented one) is murdered. But with a whole cast of people who would have had cause to kill him, the detective has his hands full.
