Irony is a literary device that seems to be at its strongest in the dramatic form. The grandeur and majesty of the ocean can be fully realized in a dramatic form as well, because it utilizes the sense of sight to magnify and support the words.

Many elements of a play makes drama unique and in the Riders of the Sea it is the structure, the foreshadowing of the tragedy and its relation to the element of guilt which is not personal the emotional acceptance of fate, the lack of complication and dignity of the main characters
