Martin is a dynamic character in that he changes throughout the story. A dynamic character is one that goes through a transformation of sorts and this is the case with Martin. At the beginning he is embarassed by his grandfather because he's been telling all of his friends lies about how mighty and grand his grandfather is (the reality isn't like tv). Then as he begins to spend time with his grandfather and to learn the traditions and stories of his family and their people his mindset changes and he's no longer embarassed.
