In "How much land does a man need" Extend the constrast between what Pahom wants and "all he needs". How could Leo Tolstoy's parable about materialism apply today?

Tolstoy is saying that it is all too easy to lose sight of what is important and Pahom's drive to be greedy and seek power over others makes him easy to anger, lose good judgement, and to treat others unfairly. This applies to mankind, even to this day.
