How does the author conclude the first chapter? Always Running

The author concludes the chapter by flashing back to the first scene, in which, his parents are arguing in the car.... arguing about whether or not to remain in the United States. Maria and Alfonso's separation is short lived.... she never leaves the United States, and she and the boys remain because she loves her husband. It is at this moment that the decision is made to stay, and at this moment that Luis knows that they will have to find a way to adjust to their lives in Los Angeles.
