Shylock is a Jewish moneylender in Venice. Over the course of the play, he lends money to Antonio, and later demands a pound of flesh when Antonio cannot pay him back. By the end of the play, he is forced to convert to Christianity, has lost his wealth, and most importantly of all, he has lost his daughter.
