Parvana encounters a Taliban who wants her to read a letter in Pashtu. What does the Taliban's reaction to the letter reveal about human nature. Why is it an important scene for the author to include?

The soldier's reaction.... tears for his dead wife is universal. This scene is important because it illustrates the soldier, although a member of the feared Taliban, is capable of love and emotion.... just like everyone else.
