The Lesson of the Moth by Don Marquis is a very good example of free verse. The poem discusses the thoughts that the narrator has as he watches a moth circling 'round a light bulb one evening.
In line 30 the metaphor is 'wad up our life and shoot the roll', which continues the overall theme of living life and appreciating beauty at every instance. Alliteration occurs on the line that says 'burned up with beauty'.
