According to Charlie in Flowers for Algernon, why is he unable to interpret the inkblots and pictures? What do you think the real reasons are?

In Flowers for Algernon Charlie is unable to see pictures in the inkblots because his mind cannot grasp the abstract. He only sees things the way they are and cannot draw meaning from something that does not have an actual meaning.
