Ginen is the name of the entire planet where the novel takes place. Zahrah describes it as a land filled with plants and nature where people think they have forgotten something, but very few try to pursue it. Furthermore, Ginen itself is split into a kingdom known as the Ooni Kingdom, where Zahrah and her family live within the northern zone. Each area is filled with different tribes and unique cultures, such as the north’s love of fashion and mirrors compared to the southwest’s love of beads or the southeast’s proficiency with metal. All the known people have respect for nature, living in buildings made of plants or using technology grown from seeds. There are also rumors of a second world known as Earth within Ginen, but very few believe it exists.
