X: A Novel

On page 346, Malcolm says, I can rise out of this prison hole to become a man of my own choosing

Do you think that Malcolm would have changed his life if he had never been arrested and gone to prison? In other words, do you think Malcolm needed to end up in prison to find meaning and purpose in his life?

I think that as with many great people, troubled times and intense adversity help make them who they become. Malcolm X is no exception to this.
