What metaphors are used in The Woman in the Dunes by Kobo Abe?

Junpei uses the metaphor of a travel ticket to describe people who live only in the present, or people who plan ahead and worry about not planning ahead. In the end, he describes his own ticket as having blanks for time and destination that he could fill in himself at any time he wishes.
