Charlie’s new school contributes to her personal growth in a number of ways. Her teacher connects her with Howard to help her learn how to be forgiving and accept people and herself as they are. At the same time, Howard gains a true friend. Charlie’s teacher also helps her grow by tying the community of the school to Charlie’s community at home by informing Bertha of Charlie’s state of mind.
