What is Richard's occupation in the novel, Wildwood (Wildwood Chronicles)?

Richard is the Postmaster General in the woods who delivers mail between South Wood and North Wood. He drives his van along the Long Road, the one main thoroughfare that connects the two regions. Because the trip is sometimes dangerous, he carries an old shotgun with him for protection. Richard is the first person to encounter Prue after she walks into the Wildwood and escapes capture by the coyotes. He is straightforward and kindly toward her.
