Freddy Otash is the novel's main character and narrator. He is employes as a policeman during the early 1950s, and after murdering several people, it becomes obvious that he will do anything for money. After being fired from the police force, Freddy buys a Private Investigator's license, which he uses to set up cheating spouses and to procure photos that will ensure positive outcomes for his clients in divorce court.
