Lulu, Starla's mother, is a cruel and selfish woman, who would rather hang out in bars than her daughter after a failed music career. When Starla shows up at her place of work, she is enraged and annoyed. She smacks Starla twice across the face, and threatens to put her on a bus back home if Porter does not come and get her.
