In Chapter Five, the idealism of students who battled oppressive capitalism quickly faded with the opportunities for wealth and advancement they encountered in the real world. These individuals are symbolic of a new generation that is truly blind to sex or race—willing to abandon their own race or gender for their own self-promotion. This new way of thinking solidified the growing concept that anyone can make it regardless of their origins.
