Pumpkins represent the deep fears that Miel has about her traumatic childhood. Miel becomes deeply terrified of pumpkins after her mother had once shoved Miel inside of a pumpkin in an attempt to "cure" her of the roses that grow from her wrist. Although Miel will at one point go and buy a pumpkin with Aracely, indicating that she has overcome this fear, in truth she has not.
