What is the theme in When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead?

Time travel is first introduced into the book when the reader learns that Miranda's favorite book is A Wrinkle in Time. For those familiar with this book, the theme of time travel is immediately obvious. For others, this theme comes up when Miranda tells Marcus the themes of the book and he begins to explain to her how time travel might one day be possible.
