Stephen Spring, from The Voice on the Radio, spends a great deal of the early part of the series being angry at his sister that was kidnapped (Janie). It is an anger without logic because obviously Janie didn't ask to be kidnapped. However, he resents her because of how her disappearance changed their lives and limited his opportunities. In this novel in the series, he has finally cut some of the strings with his family and is going to college. He is glad to be out of there. He repairs his relationship with Janie over Thanksgiving.
