After the war, many of the orphaned teenagers on the displaced persons camp decide to get married, despite being broken in body and spirit and uncertain about their future. The community comes together and use the rations and limited materials they have to create traditional wedding ceremonies. A wedding dress is stitched from a soldier’s parachute and is passed around among the brides. This dress symbolizes how these brave young people gathered the strength that they had and pushed forward, forging their futures together.
