What does Gerta inherit from Papa in the graphic novel, What the Night Sings?

Gerta’s father plays the viola in an orchestra during her childhood and brings his instrument with him to the concentration camp. Gerta inherits it after he dies, and she plays it for the Women’s Orchestra at Auschwitz. She keeps photographs and letters from her childhood hidden in the case and treasures the viola. Gerta feels connected to her father when she holds it.
