What the Night Sings
What do Gerta and Roza decide to do after arriving in Palestine in the graphic novel, What the Night Sings?
.
.
Once the refugees reach Palestine, Gerta and Roza decide to collect songs from the various groups of Jewish people that they encounter, including the Ashkenazim from Europe, the Sephardim from Spain, Africa, and Greece, the Mizrahim from the countries nearby, the Americans, the Sabras, those that have been there for millennia, and the war survivors. Given the importance of music to Gerta’s life, and how she uses music as a language to communicate, this represents how she has come to embrace being a part of the wider Jewish community.
