The novel ends with the group of refugees reaching the Biblical lands of Israel (called Eretz Israel in Here, meaning the Land of Yisrael), which was the territory of the British Mandate of Palestine. It is seen as the promised land and as a return home for the Jewish Holocaust survivors. The refugees settle on farming communes and live in community, gradually healing from the trauma of the war and building a new life.
