Granddaddy and his Momma had a falling out because he dismissed his daughter’s dreams and called her a whore in the process. He is distant at the beginning of the novel, but eventually he warms up to KB and Nia. He makes KB feel special by spending money on her, and he tells her the truth about where her mother is. He is harsh with his other grandchildren. By the end of the novel, Granddaddy has made amends with his daughter, and he helps her buy a home. There are plans for Jacquee and her daughters to come visit him.
