Saut D'eau, the waterfalls that Ma Lou, Anne, Taffia, and Sara visit at the end of the novel, serves as a symbol of rebirth. Ma Lou invites the other women to go with her, hoping that the trip will grant them a cleansing, healing, and renewing experience. While here, the women bury their bones, wash their own bones, and allow themselves to grieve openly.
